The Honda Navi turned a lot of heads when it was first launched. The mini-scooter proved to be a hit in the Indian market and at one point, was among the top 10 selling scooters in India. With the convenience of a scooter and stance of a motorcycle, the Navi was unlike anything India had seen before.
If you were a fan of the small wonder but wanted something that packed more fun, we have some good news for you. The Honda Grom, which is also known as the MSX 125 (Mini-Street Xtreme 125) in European markets, was recently spied testing near Shimla a few days ago. The mini-bike comes with a 125cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine which produces 9.7PS of power and 10.9Nm of peak torque, paired with a four-speed gearbox. The Navi, on the other hand, has a tiny 110cc engine which transmits 8PS of power and 9Nm of torque.
The bike can be best described as a sportier and bulked up version of the Navi, as it gets a funky design paired with an aggressive looking fuel tank, a slung exhaust, and sporty handlebars. You don’t need to worry too much about your pillion as it comes with a raised tailpiece for taller passengers. As far as features are concerned, the Honda Grom has been loaded with goodies like LED headlamps, ABS and USD forks, similar to the new KTM 390 Duke! It also gets a 220mm disc with dual-piston caliper in front and a single 190mm disc at the rear. The 12-inch alloy wheels on come shod with chunky road tyres.
Even with the recent leaks, it is still not clear if Honda will actually launch the bike in India since the high-end cycle parts and features will make the bike bear a premium price tag. And, given the mini-motorcycle characteristics, Indian consumers are unlikely to pay a high asking price. However, just for the fun that the monkey bike offers, we, as enthusiasts, hope that the Grom makes its way here. After all, it is safe to say that all good things come in small packages, right?
